What to Expect

First Visit

Patient Forms

  • Upon entering our office, our staff will welcome you as a member of our family. We will request that you complete our patient forms located in the “New Patient Forms” tab. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information on your condition.
  • Feel free to fill out your new patient forms prior to your visit.
  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment if forms are to be filled out in the office.

Consultation

Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. Norbert to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for Dr. Norbert to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals. During this time, you can ask any questions you may have or address any concerns you may have. If she believes you are a good candidate for care, she will proceed with the examination

Examination

After your consultation, Dr. Norbert will perform a complete chiropractic examination testing your reflexes, strength, and motion ability. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical examination tests will be performed as well. Nothing will be done in our office without your consent prior.

X-ray studies

After your physical examination is complete, Dr. Norbert will determine if X-rays are needed. X-rays help us develop the most effective and appropriate treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions. Dr. Norbert provides referrals to nearby imaging centers for X-rays and special studies, such as MRI or CT are indicated, Dr. Norbert will refer you to another specialist to have this done.

Treatment

At the conclusion of this initial appointment, Dr. Norbert will determine the appropriateness of you receiving your first treatment. This is considered a “relief” treatment to help ease your symptoms and may include spinal adjustments or physiotherapy. Dr. Norbert may determine that your examination findings be thoroughly evaluated prior to receiving treatment on the first day. Treatment is interactive, so you can express concerns about the different styles of treatment anytime.

Wellness Recommendations

Prior to leaving, the doctor will suggest wellness options to incorporate outside of treatment. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include: ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches.

How Long Will it Take?

Your first visit to a chiropractor typically lasts about 30-45 minutes. This should be enough time to perform all of the above steps needed to gather medical information and evaluate them for proper diagnosis. Since it is your health that is on the line, it is important for Dr. Norbert not to proceed in haste since some crucial information could be left out in the process, thus risking the health of the patient.

Second visit

Report of findings

Once the information is collected and examinations are performed, Dr. Norbert will give you a detailed report of all findings and answer any questions including:

  • How can you help me?
  • How often do I need to come in?
  • What will my treatment cost?

After reviewing your health history, goals, and examining your spine and X-rays, Dr. Norbert will discuss recommendations and notify you if your condition requires care with other providers. Dr. Norbert will provide the best treatment and wellness program for your needs. Once you are happy with our investigations and understand exactly our agreed recovery plan, we can begin your road back to optimal health and spinal function

Regular visits

A typical office visit may require 10-15 minutes. Each visit with Dr. Norbert will be as professional and as attentive as the last. Treatments and recommendations are different for all patients and therefore, times may vary depending on your specific recommendations. With the groundwork laid from the first and second visit, we can efficiently assess your spine during each visit, adjust you, and get you on your way. We value both your time and health. Like a regular workout at the gym, each visit builds on the one before. We encourage you to keep up the momentum necessary to make the desired changes.

Progress examinations

As you progress through your care plan, Dr. Norbert will periodically take the time to re-evaluate your progress. This progress examination is used to make sure the health goals set by our office and yourself have been met or are moving in that direction.

These exams may include:

  • The opportunity to discuss concerns
  • A re-exam to determine progress
  • The ability to refine the care plan to increased or decreased visits based on progress
  • Implementation of any further exercise or life style recommendations
