The journey to Chiropractic

Many say that “You don’t choose chiropractic, chiropractic chooses you.” In her case, Dr. J believes this to be true. Dr. J discovered her passion for chiropractic near the end of her journey as a pre-med student at The University of Texas.

All about the kids

Kids have always been her passion, for as a pre-med student, Dr. J was solely interested in pursuing a medical doctor education to become a pediatric reconstructive plastic surgeon. In her senior year at UT, she received a unique opportunity to spend a month of weekly observation of both orthopedic and reconstructive plastic surgeries at University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin, Texas. Although her respect and gratitude grew immensely for the doctors in these professions, she became compelled with the realization that the hospital setting was just not at all for her. A role in healthcare and helping others remained a constant desire of hers, but her only question became, “Where do I belong?”

It all started with a friend

Despite having known that chiropractic care is optimal for the treatment of neck and back pain, Dr. J credits her true introduction to chiropractic to a close friend who had just begun his chiropractic school education. He spoke candidly to her about the true philosophy of chiropractic, opening her eyes to a clearer understanding of the fact that the nervous system controls our ENTIRE being and is the root source of life for every cell, muscle, and organ in our body. He explained that via the relationship the spine has with the spinal cord, chiropractic is more concerned with clearing nervous system interference, providing relief for more than just neck pain and back pain, but overall health.

A perfect fit with her beliefs about health

Dr. J did her research to learn more about this vast world of healing that she was never exposed to as a pre-med student. She had no idea until this moment that the holistic outlook towards healing that chiropractic is based on mirrored everything about her health choices at the time … alternatives first, medication second. She was further shocked and pleasantly surprised upon learning that a specialty in pediatric and pregnancy care could be attained as a chiropractor. With this realization, Dr. J knew that chiropractic was her perfect fit and she hasn’t looked back since!

She’s usually on the run

Dr. J enjoys holding true to a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and staying active as an avid long-distance runner. When she’s not in the office, you can spot her on the running along the roads of Austin with her running club or Lady Bird Lake, spending time with friends and family, traveling, or once a year on the field in Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium marching with the Longhorn Alumni Band.
